Ponderosa lemons are a medium- to large-sized citrus variety, with an average diameter of ten centimeters and a weight of two pounds in eight. The oval to oblong fruits have a short neck with rounded, curving ends, and they can grow up to five pounds in weight. The rind is solid, smooth, brilliant yellow-green, and textured. It has noticeable oil glands that release aromatic essential oils, as well as bumps and ribbing. The pale green to yellow flesh is encased in a semi-thick, white, spongy pith under the surface. The soft, watery flesh, which is separated into 10 to 13 segments, is packed with numerous firm, cream-colored seeds. Because of their high acidity, Ponderosa lemons have a flavor that is bright, flowery, fruity, tangy, and slightly sweet.
