The semi-succulent Sansevieria masoniana boasts gorgeous dark green leaves with smudged pale green patches and a distinctive purple-banded sheath. The leaves can grow up to 10 inches (25 cm) in width and 4 feet (1.2 m) in length. The plant produces a stalk of white flower clusters that emerge from the center of the plant when cultivated in bright light.

The Plant of Snakes masoniana is a low-maintenance houseplant. It can withstand low light levels. At night, snake plants release oxygen, and NASA strongly suggests using snake plants to absorb airborne pollutants.

Dos

Dry to medium soil moisture; best grown in well-draining, uniformly damp to dry soil; water frequently during growing season, but reduce in the fall and winter.

Don'ts

Root rot is often caused by overwatering. Look out for spider mites and mealybugs.
