Dieffenbachia seguine, commonly referred to as "dumb cane," is a perennial herb that can grow up to 1.5 meters tall and has a long existence. The stem is upright, and the cylindrical base is usually slouched, branchless, and colored with scarred leaves. The leaves are grouped close to the top of the tall, deeply grooved stem. The lower portion of the stalk encircles the stem in a cover. The 20–40 cm long and 10–20 cm wide leaves have a rectangular to widely lance-shaped form.
